Wesleyan Drops Both Games Of Doubleheader With Frostburg State

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader with Frostburg State today at Hank Ellis Field, falling in game one 13-0 and losing a close one in game two 5-4 as their losing streak has reached seven games.

Game 1
Frostburg had early offense but couldn't put any runs on AJ Ventry through two innings. That changed in the top of the 3rd as consecutive errors by the WVWC defense allowed a run. Wesleyan struggled to muster anything more than a hit each inning and Frostburg took full advantage of this, scoring three runs in the 5th, five runs in the 6th and four runs in the 7th.

In those three innings, Frostburg had 12 runs on 11 hits. To go with the hits, errors proved key for FSU in their scoring run as well as Wesleyan had three errors in the 5th and an error in the 6th.

Cy Probst and Trevor Jones both had three hits and Jones added 3 RBI to his total as well. Mikey Guy had 2 RBI and five other Bobcats had an RBI. Max Proctor was handed the win, going six innings of no-run ball and only giving up three hits with six strikeouts.

Four different Wesleyan batters had one hit on the day. AJ Ventry took the loss after five innings of work, giving up four runs and striking out four.

Game 2
A big 2nd inning from Frostburg made it 4-0 as a double and RBI single to start the inning got the scoring started. From there, two runs were scored on another single and a fielder's choice was the final run of the inning. Frostburg added to their run total in the top of the 3rd with a solo blast to center field. Sam Ingram got the run back in the bottom half of the inning, plating Eddie Rueda after he started the inning with a single.

In the bottom of the 6th, WVWC loaded the bases with one out as Devin Johnson was HBP and both Matthew Neach and Thatcher Poteat singled. A bad throw over the catcher's head by the third baseman scored two runs and put runners at second and third with just one out still. The next pitch was put in the dirt and got to the backstop, scoring Poteat and placing Shearer at third. Wesleyan couldn't plate the tying run as back-to-back outs by the FSU bullpen got them out of the 6th inning, still holding onto the lead at 5-4.

Jack Tilton doubled with two outs in the bottom of the 7th to give the Bobcats hope once again. The game would be ended on a strikeout as Frostburg escaped with a 5-4 victory.

Stafford Allison and Danny Estrada had 2 RBI each for Frostburg and Mikey Guy added one as well. AJ Campbell picked up the victory after 5.1 innings of work, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and five strikeouts.

Matthew Neach finished with two hits and Sam Ingram had an RBI for Wesleyan. Hunter Eplin was banged around early but finished the game out strong, pitching a complete game and giving up five runs (all earned) on nine hits and four walks.

Up Next For The Bobcats
Wesleyan is home once again tomorrow as they host Fairmont State for a doubleheader at 3 & 5:30 p.m.
