Bobcats Use Three Home Run Day From Morgan Norris And Shutout Pitching To Sweep Doubleheader With NDC

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team reached double-digit MEC wins with a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College today. The Bobcats run ruled the Falcons in the first game 8-0 and shutout NDC once again in game two 6-0. Morgan Norris hit 3 HR and had 8 RBI on the day, including a grand slam in game one.

Game 1
The Falcons kicked off the game with a double to right but Hannah Hudson was able to get out of the early jam. Hallie Dinklocker singled and got to second on a passed ball. She then advanced to third on a sac bunt from Taylor Swartz and was brought home on an RBI single from Morgan Norris. With two outs in the bottom of the 3rd, Morgan Norris singled to set up Andie Dizon who doubled to bring her in, making it 2-0 after three innings.

A six-run 4th inning busted the game wide open for the Bobcats, batting around in the inning. Savannah O'Shields squeezed Megan McMackin home and Taylor Swartz got Kaitlyn Rizor home due to an error by the second baseman. Morgan Norris made the big splash in the inning, hitting a grand slam to left field to widen the Bobcat lead to 8-0. NDC was down to their final at-bats in the top of the 5th and Hannah Hudson shut the door as WVWC run ruled the Falcons 8-0 in five innings.

Danielle Fick and Alexi Maciejowski had the only hits for the Falcons. Allison Weilnau took the loss after giving up eight runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk.

Morgan Norris was a perfect 3-3 with 1 HR and 5 RBI. Taylor Swartz, Andie Dizon and Savannah O'Shields all added 1 RBI each. Hannah Hudson picked up her ninth win of the season with five innings of work, surrendering two hits and striking out six.

Game 2
Kendall Stoffel struck out the side in the top of the 1st and struck out another batter in the top of the 2nd. The Bobcat bats were quiet early on as well, going hitless through the first three innings of play and the only baserunner was Kiley Tuner on a walk in the 2nd.

Offense struck in the bottom of the 4th when Morgan Norris hit her second HR of the day, blasting it over the left-center field fence and bringing Swartz home with her after she led the inning off getting HBP. From there, Andie Dizon singled hard through the left side of the infield and Alyssa Souders got on due to an error by the left fielder. Kaitlyn Rizor took full advantage of the extra at-bat, hitting a 3-run HR to left to make it 5-0 after four innings.

NDC loaded the bases in the top of the 5th with two hits and an error but a groundout through the middle ended the inning for the Falcons, leaving with nothing. Morgan Norris continued her big day at the dish in the bottom of the 5th, knocking out her second HR of the game and third of the day to extend the Bobcat lead to 6-0. Two singles by the Falcons made things interesting in the top of the 7th with one out until Stoffel was able to produce back-to-back groundouts to end the game.

Destany Blake led NDC with two of the four Falcon hits. Grace Fisher was handed her fifth loss of the season after going five innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits and one walk.
Morgan Norris was the leader of the offense once again, hitting 2 HR and bringing in 3 RBI. Kaitlyn Rizor's HR and 3 RBI scored the other runs for the Bobcats. Kendall Stoffel went the distance once again, giving up no runs on four hits and striking out seven.
