Women’s Lacrosse Closes Season With Win Over Alderson Broaddus

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse team closed out the 2023 season with a victory over Alderson Broaddus at home earlier this afternoon. The 15-10 win secured the season sweep of the Battlers. AB outshot the Bobcats 40-37 but Wesleyan had 59 groundballs.

Yuka Mizuide started the day off with a goal just 13 seconds into the game after Wesleyan won the opening faceoff. Kaitlyn Canby, Makenzi Lewellyn and Gaidian Adams scored consecutive goals minutes later, giving WVWC a 4-0 lead. After AB scored back-to-goals, Reese Hutson got in on the goal scoring to answer back. Gaidian Adams and Kaitlyn Canby finished off the hot start with goals to make it 7-3 after one quarter of play.

The 2nd Quarter was much slower than the opening quarter with the Battlers netting the only goal at the 11:52 mark. Gabriella Gomez totaled five saves in the quarter as AB got off 10 shots. At the half, Wesleyan led 7-4.

The Battlers opened up the 2nd Half with a goal but the Bobcats scored four-straight goals to go up 11-5. Yuka Mizuide scored three of the four goals as the other was scored by Gaidian Adams. Alderson Broaddus netted one late in the quarter with Wesleyan leading 11-6 going into the 4th.

WVWC built a lead as big as eight with Kaitlyn Canby scoring two goals and Yuka Mizuide adding to her goal total. AB scored three-straight goals but it would be too late as the Bobcats picked up the 15-10 victory on Senior Day.

AB was led by Lilly Parsons' three goals and two assists while three other Battlers had two goals. Taylor Young recorded 15 saves in the loss.

Yuka Mizuide led the Bobcats with five goals and one assist while Kaitlyn Canby finished the game with four. Gaidian Adams added three goals as well. Gabriella Gomez was strong at the goalie spot, saving 25 shots.
