Softball Falls To Notre Dame College, Eliminated From MEC Tournament

TROUTVILLE, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team fell to Notre Dame College 3-2 this afternoon at the MEC Tournament. With the loss, the Bobcats have been eliminated and now await their selection on Monday morning for the NCAA Tournament.

The Falcons loaded the bases in the top of the 1st, using a walk to plate the first run and a blooper down the left field line to score two more runs, making it 3-0. A pair of two out singles didn't harm in the top of the 2nd as Hannah Hudson forced a pop up to get out of the inning. An error by NDC allowed the Bobcats to stay alive in the bottom of the 2nd with runners at second and third. A strikeout ended the inning as the Falcons kept their 3-0 lead.

After a quiet 3rd and 4th inning, Wesleyan put together back-to-back singles with two outs in the bottom of the 5th. The Falcons were able to once again get out of an inning without allowing a run as Andie Dizon hit a hard grounder to the right side but the second baseman gobbled it up. In the bottom of the 7th, the Bobcats were down to their final outs of the game, still trailing by three.

Savannah O'Shields was HBP and Hallie Dinklocker singled, setting up Bella Posey's RBI single to right to cut into the Falcon lead. Morgan Norris kept the Bobcats in it with another single, trimming the lead to just one. With a runner in scoring position, WVWC couldn't force extras or win the game as a pop up to the second baseman ended the game.

The Falcons were held to just three hits as Meadow Odum's 2-run double turned out to be a key hit for the Falcons. Alyss Wahl added an RBI as well. Grace Fisher pitched a complete game, giving up two runs (earned) on six hits and striking out two.

Hallie Dinklocker finished the game with two hits with Bella Posey and Morgan Norris both recording an RBI for the 'Cats. Hannah Hudson took the loss, pitching six innings and surrendering three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks while also striking out seven.
