A loose scramble on wet turf in a misty rain just yards from the net gave West Virginia State University (2-3-0) a 2-1 victory over host West Virginia Wesleyan College (1-3-0) Sunday in Buckhannon.
The Yellowjackets' Ammy Mwasambua (assisted by Sandra Linares) found a rolling ball inside the 6-yard box as players from both teams scrambled for a hold and tapped it across the goal line for the game-winner with less than 90 seconds to play.
The Bobcats opened the scoring early in the 12th minute when
Ellie Pergolotti found the ball 25 yards out and crushed it into the upper left corner of the net for her second goal of the year.
The Yellowjackets evened the game 19 minutes later on a driving shot from the right wing by Esther Dhiramo (assisted by Alba Closa).
Wesleyan travels to Glenville State University Wednesday, Sept. 20, for a 7 p.m. start at Morris Stadium.
