Bobcats Drop a Close Match vs Notre Dame to Open Up Conference Play

Buckhannon, W.Va.- The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat's Volleyball Team hosted the Falcons of Notre Dame in the first conference match up of the season. A competitive match up lead to a 5 set match with the Falcons taking the victory 3-2. The falcons took set 1 with a score of 25-14. Highlighted by the Falcon's offense, Jayme Zoeckler, with 12 assists and Sydney Brady with 7 kills. Defensively, the Falcons were aided through Kiley Kalina's 7 digs. 

    Set 2 was taken by the Bobcats, 25-23. A close back and fourth match with the biggest point differential being 4 points at 14-18 in favor of Notre Dame. The Lady Bobcats climb their way to win the set with a total of 16 kills. Players Makenzie Yates, Jayla Cowered, and Hope Arce-Reed combined for 11 kills in set 2. Additionally, Alauna Wilson recorded 12 assists to aid in the Bobcat's offensive attack. 

    Set 3 was a similar story, a close 25-23 set with the Bobcats on top. The Bobcats recorded 18 kills with Hope Arce-Reed leading the Bobcats with 5. Setter, Alauna Wilson again aided in the offensive attack with 15 assists. The difference in this set came down to the defense of the Bobcats. With 6 total team blocks compared to the Falcons 2, deemed to be the difference in the set. Freshman Bhrooke Axe and Senior Jayla Cowherd both recorded 2 block assists each in the set. Libero Autumn Molenhouse, recorded 7 digs playing a key role in the Bobcat's defense. 

    Sets 4 and 5 the Falcons combined for a total of 26 kills to the Bobcat's 17. The Falcons took set 4 25-13, with a combined 11 kills between Sydney Bray and Samantha Comer. Falcon's setter Jayme Zoeckler had 14 assists in set 4 to aid the offensive attack for the Falcons. Set 5 ended with a score of 15-8 in favor of the Falcons. 

The Bobcats look ahead to their next matchup against the Golden Eagles of Charleston. They are set to play Tuesday, September 26th at 7 p.m. in the H Bernard Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena.
