Bobcat Women Drop First Game Back from the Break to Concord 66-58

Bench points helped Concord University defeat West Virginia Wesleyan College, 66-58, in Mountain East Conference women's basketball action, Wednesday, in Buckhannon.
 
The Bobcats' season leader, Emma Witt (13.9 points-per-game) and third in season points average Shelby Genes (10 points-per-game) accounted for more than half of Wesleyan's total. Witt was the game's high scorer, dropping 7-of-12 field goals and finishing 6-of-8 from the free-throw line for 20 points. Genes went 6-of-9 from the field with 4-of-5 coming from beyond the three-point stripe for a 16-point total.
 
The Mountain Lions were able to spread its point total more evenly, with bench players accounting for 15 points to the Bobcats' eight. Concord was led by Jaisah Smith with 17 points and Abbie Smith with 13 points. The Mountain Lions also stole 21 possessions from the Bobcats which led to 17 points.
 
Despite the final score, the Bobcats, in its first game since the holiday break, showed improvement throughout the game with field goal percentages that grew in each quarter, 29 percent, 42 percent, 62 percent and 80 percent, respectively.
 
Wesleyan (2-8, 0-6) goes on the road to Glenville State (9-4, 3-3) on Saturday, Jan. 13 for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Pioneers.
