Bobcats Lacrosse Drop 14-10 Decision to Virginia State

The West Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team travel to Peterburg, Va. Saturday and lost a close game, 14-10 to Virginia State University.

The Bobcats got on the board first when team-leading goal scorer Talia Berardo (26 goals) found the net just two minutes into the game. But VSU racked up the next three goals unassisted, one each by Adrien Wise, Kayla Caroll-William and Skye Whiting before the Bobcats scored again. Makenzi Lewellyn (assist by Erin Mobley) brought Wesleyan to within one with 8:19 remaining in the first quarter. Two more VCU scores by Jhalin Hooks and Sarai Reyes-Roman put the Trojans up 5-2 until Mobley took an assist from Berardo with 25 seconds left.

In the second, the Trojans continued to pound the net with four more goals in the first four minutes of play but Wesleyan ended the half on a positive note, claiming two more points on goals by Mobley (assist Lewellyn) and Berardo before the horn.

Going into the second half down 11-5, Berardo and Molly Knackstedt (assist Mobley) tried to get the 'Cats closer, each scoring in the first minute-and-a-half, and Berardo blasted another pair of goals to end the third quarter, but their efforts weren't enough.

Berardo tallied five goals and one assist. Mobley had two goals and two assists. Knackstedt, Lewellyn and Raveena Navalgund each contributed one goal.

Wesleyan goes on the road to Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio on Tuesday, Mar. 19 for a 4 p.m. start.
