Junior midfielder
Ava Badallo scored West Virginia Wesleyan's first goal of the year and the Bobcats went on to claim a 3-0 shutout of Salem University Saturday in Buckhannon.
Â
Badallo stole a Salem pass at the top of the 18-yard box in the 21st minute and delivered a shot that caromed of Tiger's keeper Sarah Cabera for the score.
Â
Three minutes later, a handball inside Salem's penalty box gave senior midfielder
Hannah Murphy a penalty shot attempt which she buried to put Wesleyan up 2-0.
Â
Kamryn Cox added the clincher when she rifled a missile to the top left corner from 18 yards out after receiving a right-wing cross from junior forward
Sydney Vilain at 82:26.
Â
Wesleyan took 28 shots (17 on goal) to Salem's single on-goal attempt. The Bobcats had six corners and Salem had none. Fouls were fairly even: Wesleyan committed 14 and Salem had 13.
Â
Bobcat keeper sophomore
Paula Garcia served 90 minutes and stopped one shot.
Â
The Bobcats go on the road to California University (Pa.) Wednesday, Sept. 11 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
