Hartsville, S.C.- The Wesleyan Women's Volleyball team started their 2024 campaign by traveling to Coker University. They would beat Coker University and Francis Marion University 3-2 in both matches and go 2-2 on the weekend.
Friday Sept. 6th, Coker University: 3-2
Wesleyan would start out winning the first set 25-19, then alternate winning sets until the 5th set. Wesleyan would get the victory winning the 5th set 15-11. Notable performers for Wesleyan include
Emily Denison with 24 kills, 23 digs, and 2 aces. Sophomore, Brooke Axe would tally 16 kills and record for blocks on defense.
Jalynn West recorded 51 assists along with 14 digs in the match.
Friday, Sept 6th, Belmont Abbey College: 2-3
The Lady Bobcats would strike first winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-18. Belmont Abbey would come back and went the next three sets to take the victory. Notable performers in this match include
Emily Denison with 20 kills and 20 digs.
Bhrooke Axe would collect 16 kills along with 6 blocks.
Jalynn West would match her assist total from the previous match with 51 assists and 9 digs.
Saturday, Sept. 7th Wingate University: 0-3
The Bobcats would be swept by Wingate in three straight sets. Notable performers are Alexis Moechler with 2 aces and 10 digs. Helena Kelly would collect 11 assists as the setter.
Bhrooke Axe would lead the team with 5 kills.
Saturday, Sept. 7th Francis Marion University: 3-2
The Bobcats, looking to snap their two game loosing streak, would face Francis Marion University as the final game of the weekend. Francis marion would win the first two sets, but Wesleyan would rally back and win the next 3 sets to take the win. After winning a close 3rd set 25-23, the Bobcats took the momentum and won set 4, 25-12 and set 5, 15-11.
Olivia Albrecht would lead the team in kills with 14 and
Bhrooke Axe a close second with 13 kills. Alexis Moechler would serve 4 aces and lead the team in digs with 12.
The Wesleyan Volleyball team with have their first home match against the Tigers of Salem University Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00pm.
