The Wesleyan men returned to the hardcourt in Athens, W.Va., Thursday to find that a bit of winter rust had settled in and lost to the Concord University Mountain Lions 94-77.
It was a tale of two halves for the Bobcats. Coming out of the holiday break and waiting an additional 24 hours because of winter weather cancellations chilled Wesleyan's first half offense. Wesleyan shot just 36 percent and was down 42-24 by the time the halftime buzzer sounded.
But Wesleyan matched even with the Mountain Lions in the second half, outscoring the host team 53-52 in what seemed like its own game separate from a dismal performance over the first 20 minutes of play. A 52-percent shooting performance helped narrow the Concord lead to 11 points with 12 minutes remaining but the Bobcats could come no closer.
Anthony Crosby led Wesleyan, scoring a season-high 14 points while logging three assists and snagging seven rebounds. Three Bobcats gave 11-point efforts:
Stephen Ovia,
Alex Mirhosseini and
Lamont Jones.
Concord's number one scorer was Kollin Tolbert who knocked down 15 points, including a 10-of-10 showing from the free throw stripe. Kraig Gilbert scored 14 points and was the game's rebound leader with nine boards.
The Bobcats host Glenville State University Saturday, Jan. 11 in the Rockefeller Center. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. and admission is free.
