Wesleyan's volleyball team continued its strong run through Mountain East Conference play with a 3–1 road victory over West Virginia State Friday night inside the Walker Convocation Center. Set results were 25–19, 25–21, 18–25, 25–22.
Wesleyan's offense fired on all cylinders behind a balanced hitting effort that saw four players notch double-figure kills.
- Emily Denison led the way with 11 kills, adding 11 digs and a team-high 13.5 points.
- MacKenna Halfin matched her with 11 kills, three block assists, and 12.5 total points.
- Emonie Fennell continued her steady play with 11 kills on an efficient .308 hitting percentage.
- Sabrina Carleton chipped in six kills at a strong .273 clip to round out the top contributors.
Setter
Lacey Guthrie steered the offense with
23 assists, while
Claire Wheeler distributed another
18 assists and served one ace.
Faith Grafton anchored the back row with an impressive
21 digs, supported by
Alexis Moeschler's 14 and
Wheeler's eight as the Bobcats totaled
71 digs as a team.
The Bobcats' front line proved decisive, outblocking the Yellow Jackets
10–6 overall. Denison, Halfin, and
Bhrooke Axe combined for
eight block assists, while Fennell and Denison each registered solo stuffs. That net presence helped hold WVSU to a
.118 hitting percentage over four sets.
The Bobcats improved to
11–5 overall and 3–1 in MEC action, while the Yellow Jackets fell to
7–10 (2–4 MEC).
Next up for the Bobcats is Route 33 rival Davis & Elkins College Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon. First serve is 7 p.m.
