The Bobcats' volleyball team continued its impressive run through Mountain East Conference play Friday night, sweeping Wheeling University 3–0 (25–22, 25–19, 25–17) inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center. With the victory, the Bobcats improved to
13–5 overall and 5–1 in MEC play, while Wheeling dropped to 8–11 (4–2 MEC).
Wesleyan controlled the match from start to finish. The Bobcats hit
.235 as a team, with standout performances from several hitters.
Bhrooke Axe led the attack with
14 kills on 23 swings for a
.435 hitting percentage, adding four block assists for a match-high
16.0 points.
Lisdarelyn Grassals followed with
10 kills and a .273 mark, while
MacKenna Halfin chipped in nine kills and a .263 hitting clip.
Middle blocker
Emily Denison made her presence felt with six kills, two aces, and three block assists for 10.5 total points.
Sabrina Carleton added five kills and four blocks, rounding out a front line that tallied
14 total team blocks.
Setter
Claire Wheeler directed the offense with
24 assists, while fellow setter
Lacey Guthrie contributed
19 assists, a service ace, and three digs in Wesleyan's 6–2 rotation.
On the defensive end,
Faith Grafton anchored the back row with a team-best
13 digs, while Grassals (11) and Denison (10) also reached double digits.
The Bobcats stay north with another MEC volleyball foe, West Liberty University. First serve is slated for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
