Fairmont State Holds Off West Virginia Wesleyan for 4-2 Victory
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Behind a strong pitching performance from T. Wilkinson and timely power hitting, Fairmont State secured a 4-2 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
Fairmont State got on the board in the third inning when C. Bailey lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home M. Johnston for an unearned run. The Falcons added to their lead moments later as T. Haskins launched a two-run homer, driving in C. Moore and making it 3-0.
West Virginia Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the frame when Jack Tilton lined out to left for a sacrifice RBI, but an unfortunate baserunning mistake saw Ethan Fraley doubled up, limiting the damage.
The Falcons tacked on an insurance run in the fourth when Q. Reep sent a solo shot over the fence to extend the lead to 4-1. The Bobcats had a late push in the seventh as Issac Lough crossed home plate on a passed ball, but Wilkinson remained composed to close out the game.
Haskins and Reep led Fairmont State offensively with their home runs, while Luke Burner paced West Virginia Wesleyan with two hits and a stolen base.
