Wheeling Defeats Wesleyan in MEC Lacrosse Action

Wheeling, W.Va. —Wheeling University's women's lacrosse team defeated visiting West Virginia Wesleyan 23-4 in Mountain East Conference play, Saturday.

Wheeling stormed out of the gate, erupting for 13 goals in the opening quarter alone. The Cardinals' offensive explosion was led by Trinity Rose, who tallied a game-high six goals and one assist, and Paige Jankowski, who added five goals and one assist.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Wesleyan managed to produce four goals across the quarters. Each came from a different player, showcasing some scoring diversity:
  • Ashlyn LaPlante opened Wesleyan's account in the first quarter with a free-position goal.
  • Nyah Elmer followed up in the second, providing a spark with her aggressive offensive push.
  • Raveena Navalgund scored in the third off a solo effort and contributed across the stat sheet with 5 draw controls, 3 ground balls, and a caused turnover.
  • Francesca Sloan added a late fourth-quarter tally.

Elmer also led the team in shots (8) and draw controls (8), persistently challenging Wheeling's defense.

Wheeling displayed its offensive depth as eight different players found the back of the net. Maisy Latus delivered three goals but also recorded 11 shots and grabbed two ground balls. Latus split goalkeeping duties with Giovanna Perkins, who made 10 saves over nearly 40 minutes of play.

Wesleyan goalkeeper Ella Gomez faced a barrage of shots and responded admirably, recording 14 saves in over 54 minutes of action.
