Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Alexander’s Late Strike Lifts Bobcats to First Win of 2025 Season

The Bobcat women's soccer team secured its first win of the 2025 season with a dramatic 87th-minute goal from freshman forward Sydne Alexander, downing visiting California (PA) 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Culpepper Stadium.

With the clock winding down in the scoreless contest, Mia Rodriguez threaded the assist into the box that found Alexander. The sophomore finished the opportunity in the 87th minute to put the Bobcats on the board and seal the win.

Wesleyan dictated the pace of play throughout the contest, outshooting the Vulcans 11-6 and earning a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the first half alone. The Bobcats maintained consistent offensive pressure through all 90 minutes, with five of their 11 shots landing on goal.

Defender Kailey Garofalo was particularly active in the attack, recording a team-high three shots on goal, while Alexander, Sydney Vilain, and Kamryn Cox each registered a shot.

Senior goalkeeper Maite Coutinho posted her second consecutive clean sheet, facing two shots on goal and turning both away. Backed by strong defensive performances from Kaydence Bonneau, Natalie Carlock, and Carlie Ice, Wesleyan neutralized Cal U's attack despite conceding five second-half corner kicks.

Wesleyan (1-0-1) will look to build on its momentum with a road trip to Concord University Saturday, Sept. 13 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
