The Wesleyan women's soccer team suffered a tough home loss on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to West Virginia State in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match up at Culpepper Stadium.
Â
State opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a strike from
Laura Pouedras, assisted by
Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz. Just seven minutes later,
Sara París Fílter capitalized on a defensive lapse to double the Yellow Jackets' lead.
Â
Despite multiple first-half saves from senior goalkeeper
Maite Coutinho, the Bobcats entered halftime trailing 2-0 and struggling to gain a foothold in the midfield.
Â
The Bobcats could not generate consistent offensive threats, managing only
four total shots, two of which were on goal.
Ava Badallo and
Hannah Murphy recorded the only shots on target.
Â
Wesleyan travels to Glenville State University on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for a 6 p.m. match against the Pioneers.
