Wesleyan's women's soccer team rallied from an early two-goal deficit and drew level in the second half, but a late strike from Charleston proved decisive as the Bobcats fell, 3–2, Sunday afternoon at Culpepper Stadium.
The Golden Eagles capitalized quickly, scoring twice in the opening 19 minutes. Li-Lou Debaecker put Charleston ahead in the 13th minute with a finish from the edge of the area. Six minutes later, Anae Buehlmann doubled the lead off an assist from Alyssa LoGuercio to make it 2–0.
Wesleyan answered in the 27th minute. Freshman
Sofia Avila netted her first career goal, slotting home a pass from
Ava Badallo, cutting the deficit to 2–1 heading into halftime.
Momentum carried into the second half for the Bobcats. In the 49th minute, Badallo continued her strong start to the season, finishing from close range off an assist from
Kailey Garofalo to tie the match at 2–2. The equalizer marked Badallo's second goal of the season and her third point of the afternoon.
The tie held for just over 12 minutes before Buehlmann struck again in the 61st minute, tallying her second goal of the day to restore Charleston's lead at 3–2.
The Bobcats host Salem University Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at Culpepper Stadium.
