Wesleyan Volleyball Opens 2025 Season With Split at Waco Center

The Bobcat volleyball team kicked off the 2025 campaign with a competitive doubleheader at the Waco Center in Glenville, WV, earning a commanding sweep over Bluefield State before falling to regional powerhouse Carson-Newman in the afternoon matchup.
 
GAME ONE: Wesleyan 3, Bluefield State 0
 
Set Scores: 25–12, 25–20, 25–19


The Bobcats came out firing in their season opener with a decisive 3-0 sweep of Bluefield State. Behind a balanced offensive attack and aggressive service game, Wesleyan dominated early and never looked back.
 
Offensive Highlights:
  • Bhrooke Axe paced the attack with 12 kills, hitting an impressive .474 with just 3 errors on 19 swings.
  • MacKenna Halfin followed closely with 10 kills and a .320 hitting percentage.
  • Sabrina Carleton (7 kills, 8.5 points) and Emonie Fennell (7 kills, .357 hitting) added key contributions.
 
Setting & Service:
  • Claire Wheeler orchestrated the offense with 24 assists, and chipped in 2 aces.
  • Alexis Moeschler led all players with 3 service aces and anchored the back row with 14 digs.
 
Team Performance:
  • The Bobcats recorded 8 service aces, 45 assists, and hit .263 as a team.
  • Defensively, they totaled 52 digs and 4 blocks, limiting Bluefield State to a .088 hitting percentage.
 
 
GAME TWO: Carson-Newman 3, Wesleyan 0

In the afternoon matchup, the Bobcats battled but ultimately fell to a strong Carson-Newman team in straight sets. Despite a narrow first-set loss, Wesleyan couldn't find offensive consistency against a tough Eagles defense.
