CHARLESTON, W.Va. —Wesleyan's men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Charleston squad Wednesday night, falling 100–58 at H. Bernard Wehrle Arena in Mountain East Conference play. Charleston set the tone early with an explosive first half and never looked back, improving to 8–6 overall and 4–4 in league action, while the Bobcats dropped to 0–14 (0–8 MEC).
Wesleyan showed flashes offensively, shooting 36.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, with improved efficiency in the second half (40.9 percent). The Bobcats also received a strong contribution from the bench, which accounted for 27 points. However, Charleston's depth and transition attack continued to stretch the margin throughout the second half as the hosts outscored Wesleyan 42–31 after intermission.
Curtis Litton led Wesleyan with 14 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while
Lamont Jones added 10 points off the bench and went a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line.
Adrijus Janciauskas chipped in eight points, and
Stephen Ovia contributed seven points and four rebounds. As a team, the Bobcats finished 14-of-19 at the foul line and totaled 24 rebounds.
Charleston was paced by Matthew Shelton's 20-point performance on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting. Ben Nicol followed with 15 points, including five three-pointers, and Kaden Davis added 14 points off the bench.
The Bobcats return home Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 4 p.m. tip against West Virginia State University at the Rockefeller Center.
