Lady Bobcats Blank Charleston 2-0 in Weather-Shortened Rematch

Dalton makes eight saves as Wesleyan wins its second straight

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer beat Charleston 2-0 on Wednesday night at Culpepper Stadium in a Mountain East Conference match that was called with 13:38 remaining due to weather.

The Lady Bobcats (6-6-2, 6-5-1 MEC) widen the gap on the Golden Eagles (4-7-3, 4-5-3 MEC) in the MEC South standings as they have now won their second straight match.

Wesleyan controlled the first half, out shooting Charleston 12-7, and broke through in the 22nd minute. Natalie Carlock scored her first goal of the season after a flurry of corner kicks to make it 1-0, which became the game winner. Charleston goalkeeper Ines Degli Esposti made eight saves in the half to keep it a one-goal game.

The Lady Bobcats added to the lead five minutes into the second half. Kamryn Cox sent a pass to Mia Rodriguez, who scored her fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute to make it 2-0.

Charleston pressed in the second half, out shooting Wesleyan 12-4, but Reyna Dalton continued a great season and made five saves after the break to preserve the shutout. This is Dalton's sixth shutout of the season. She finished with eight saves in 76:22 of action.

Wesleyan had a 10-8 edge in shots on goal, though Charleston took more shots overall, 19-16. The Bobcats also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Sydney Crowe led Charleston with five shots, three on goal, and Emilía Dís Óskarsdóttir added four shots in just 15 minutes. There were 106 fans in attendance.

Wesleyan returns to the road looking to avenge a loss from earlier in the season as they head down to Institute to face the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
