Lady Bobcats Battle to a Scoreless Draw Against Shawnee State

Dalton makes five saves as Bobcats earn a road point in MEC play

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer played Shawnee State to a 0-0 draw in a Mountain East Conference match Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bobcats move to 7-7-3 overall and 7-6-2 in MEC play. The Bears go to 1-12-3, and 1-11-3 in MEC play on their Senior Day.

Neither team found the net in a match that finished with nine shots apiece. Wesleyan outshot Shawnee State 4-3 in the first half and put four shots on goal in the match, while goalkeeper Reyna Dalton made one save before the break. Dalton had four more in the second half, including stops on Lucie Ashkettle in the 85th minute and Madalynn Mueller in the 78th, to preserve the shutout. She played all 90 minutes.

Wesleyan had the edge in corner kicks, 8-0, and created chances throughout the second half. Ayan Ahmed, Isabella Mazza and Carlie Ice each had a shot saved by Shawnee State goalkeeper Harlee Brand, and Mia Rodriguez had a late shot turned away in the 89th minute. Ice and Tessa Grisez each had two shots to lead the Bobcats. Shawnee State was shown four yellow cards in the second half.

West Virginia Wesleyan next plays at Glenville State on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. A win would earn the Lady Bobcats the right to host a first-round match in the MEC Tournament.
