BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan fell to Glenville State, 112–66, in Mountain East Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside the Rockefeller Center.
Wesleyan (2-21, 1-15 MEC) opened the game with strong execution, taking the early lead on a layup from
Jaden Westfall just seconds into the contest. The Bobcats traded baskets with Glenville State in the opening minutes, including a key transition layup by
Isaiah Baker that tied the score at 6-6 with 16:36 remaining in the first half.
Glenville State quickly seized momentum behind an extraordinary perimeter performance from Jalen Knott. Knott's long-range shooting sparked a pivotal 16-3 stretch midway through the half, turning a tight contest into a double-digit Pioneer lead. State built its advantage by forcing turnovers and converting in transition and finished the first half on a surge to take a commanding 55-29 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Pioneers continued their offensive rhythm, opening with consecutive three-pointers and transition baskets to extend the lead beyond 30 points. Despite the deficit, the Bobcats continued to compete and found offensive production from their bench.
Lamont Jones scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while
Jerell Jean-Baptiste added 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Lethaniel Foster Jr. contributed seven points in limited minutes, and
Jaden Westfall chipped in nine points to lead the Bobcat starters.
As a team, Wesleyan finished the contest shooting 33.8 percent from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc, while converting 5-of-8 from the free throw line. The Bobcats generated 38 bench points and secured 17 second-chance points.
Glenville State (16-8, 10-6 MEC) was led by Knott's performance, as he scored 35 points and knocked down 11 three-pointers. Ammar Maxwell added 23 points on an efficient 11-of-13 shooting effort, while Callum Crossman (14 points) and Rye Gadd (11 points) provided strong production off the bench. The Pioneers finished the game shooting 56.4 percent overall and 40.9 percent from three-point range.
The Bobcats will look to regroup as they continue Mountain East Conference play with a home contest against the University of Charleston on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
