Chris Cline Athletic Complex – Huntington, West Virginia
The West Virginia Wesleyan College men's and women's track and field teams delivered a strong collective performance at the Mountain East Conference Indoor Championships hosted at Marshall University's Chris Cline Athletic Complex, highlighted by conference titles, school records, and multiple NCAA qualifying marks.
The Bobcat women placed fourth overall with 73.5 team points, while the men's squad finished fifth, totaling 56.5 points against a highly competitive conference field.
Men's Team Recap
West Virginia Wesleyan's men were powered by standout performances in the sprints, jumps, throws, and distance events, producing several podium finishes and program-record performances.
Senior sprinter Lucas Anderson led the way with one of the top performances of the meet. Anderson placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80 seconds, achieving an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and moving to No. 49 nationally. He followed with another fourth-place finish in the 200 meters, crossing in 21.64 seconds to rank 91st in NCAA Division II.
Joseph Liveo contributed valuable sprint points, finishing eighth in both the 200 meters (22.51) and 400 meters (50.19). Liveo also played a key role in Wesleyan's relay success throughout the meet.
In distance competition, Erik Nygaard delivered an outstanding championship showing. Nygaard finished sixth in the 3,000 meters (8:47.41) before turning in a historic performance in the 5,000 meters, placing fourth in 14:47.16 while breaking the West Virginia Wesleyan indoor school record. Teammate Anthony Sanders added depth with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:50.95) and fifth place in the 5,000 meters (15:05.57).
The field events proved especially productive for the Bobcats. Michael Hansford captured a conference championship in the triple jump with a leap of 14.83 meters, earning an NCAA provisional mark and ranking No. 29 nationally. Hansford also placed seventh in the long jump (6.74m), while teammate Reese Farquharson finished eighth (6.69m).
In the throws, Kian Rangel-Cabreros secured a third-place podium finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.81 meters. The weight throw group produced another milestone moment as Quinton Payton placed fourth with a school-record throw of 16.41 meters, while Phil Phillips added a sixth-place finish at 15.75 meters.
Wesleyan's relay teams added critical team points. The distance medley relay team of Jonathan Norton, Zane Nelson, Griffin Thomas, and Kent Niland placed eighth in 10:50.65. The 4x400-meter relay quartet of Liveo, Norton, Anderson, and Farquharson finished fifth overall with a time of 3:27.06.
Women's Team Recap
The Bobcat women turned in one of their strongest championship performances of the indoor season, highlighted by multiple event victories and strong distance and vaulting performances.
Middle-distance standout Dakota Johnson claimed a Mountain East Conference title in the 800 meters, winning in 2:18.02. Teammate Reyna Headley added additional scoring with a sixth-place finish in 2:21.43.
Distance runner Lindsey Dillon competed in three scoring events, placing seventh in the mile (5:10.90) and 3,000 meters (10:26.15) before finishing fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.42. Mariam Al-Zoubi added key distance points, placing eighth in the 3,000 meters (10:26.59) and fifth in the 5,000 meters (18:07.64).
The pole vault proved to be a dominant event for Wesleyan. Maylie Bland captured the conference championship with a winning clearance of 3.20 meters, while Clover Stamat secured runner-up honors at 3.05 meters. Marimo Akita added a sixth-place finish (2.75m), followed by Ava Cash in seventh (2.60m), giving the Bobcats four scoring performances in the event.
In the jumps, Jessica Williams finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.55 meters, while Darianne Christian earned fifth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29 meters.
Thrower Mallory McGinnis contributed with a sixth-place finish in the shot put at 11.86 meters.
Wesleyan also found success in relay competition. The distance medley relay team of Headley, Wylie Monnett, Johnson, and Sofia Pancoast finished fifth in 12:48.03. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Akita, Destiny Barnette, Christian, and Johnson placed seventh overall in 4:07.40.
