Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Bobcats Roll Past Geneva 17–2 Behind Elmer’s 10-Point Performance

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The Bobcats women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Geneva 17–2.

Wesleyan controlled the game from the opening draw, building an early lead and never allowing Geneva to find sustained momentum. Wesleyan finished with a 29–10 advantage in shots, won 17 draw controls, and forced 21 turnovers while cruising to the decisive victory.

Wesleyan wasted little time asserting itself. After an early save by Geneva goalkeeper Lexi Lee, Nyah Elmer opened the scoring at the 12:49 mark with an unassisted strike to give the Bobcats a 1–0 lead. Geneva briefly responded when Julianna Easley scored on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at 1–1, but Wesleyan immediately seized control.

Just seconds later, Boluwatife Omoleye restored the lead off a feed from Elmer. The Bobcats then rattled off six more goals in the period, highlighted by two tallies from Ashlyn LaPlante and a pair from Elmer during a rapid scoring burst.

LaPlante converted a free-position opportunity midway through the quarter, while Wiktoria Walska added a goal off another Elmer assist to keep the pressure on Geneva's defense. Elmer capped the opening-period scoring with her third and fourth goals of the frame, pushing Wesleyan to an 8–1 lead after the first quarter.

The Bobcats continued their offensive surge early in the second quarter when Sydnie Pierre found the net at 14:38 to extend the advantage. Moments later, Sydney McKinney converted a pass from Elmer, and Elmer followed with another goal of her own to stretch the lead to double digits.

Late in the half, Francesca Sloan delivered back-to-back scores, including a free-position goal with just over three minutes remaining. That scoring run sent Wesleyan into halftime comfortably ahead 13–1.

The Bobcats continued to capitalize on opportunities in the third period, particularly during man-up situations. Sloan opened the quarter with a man-up goal at 12:26, and Elmer added another advantage tally shortly thereafter. Sloan then completed her hat trick moments later with an unassisted strike, pushing the Wesleyan lead to 16–1 heading into the final period.

Geneva managed one final goal midway through the fourth quarter when Easley connected on a pass from Taylor Robinson. Wesleyan had the final word, however, as LaPlante scored with 12 seconds remaining, finishing off an assist from Elmer to seal the 17–2 victory.

Leaders for the Bobcats
Elmer delivered a sensational all-around performance, scoring six goals and adding four assists for 10 points, while also controlling 13 draws to drive Wesleyan's possession advantage.

Sloan added four goals, while LaPlante contributed three goals on seven shots. Additional goals came from Omoleye, Pierre, McKinney, and Walska.

Wesleyan's defense held Geneva to just 10 shots and six shots on goal, with three Bobcat goalkeepers combining for five saves in the win.

The Bobcats travel to Alfred State College (N.Y.) Saturday, March 21 for a 1 p.m. match.
