MELBOURNE, Fla. — Wesleyan softball opened play at the Space Coast Tournament in Florida with four games across two days (March 2–3), earning two wins against Walsh and Roosevelt while battling strong performances from Tiffin and Jamestown.
West Virginia Wesleyan 8, Walsh 3
The Bobcats opened tournament play with an impressive offensive performance, defeating Walsh 8–3 on Monday morning.
Wesleyan wasted little time taking control of the contest. In the bottom of the first inning,
Jaelyn Riley sparked the offense with a leadoff double before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Lynzee Hague. A sacrifice fly from
Gracey Arnold plated the first run, and moments later
Madison Austra delivered an RBI single to extend the early lead to 2–0.
The Bobcats broke the game open in the second inning with a four-run surge. Riley and
Chloe Cowan both reached base to set the table before Hague delivered a clutch two-run double. Arnold followed with another sacrifice fly, and
Josi Fix later tripled before scoring on an RBI single from
Reagan Winn, giving Wesleyan a commanding 6–0 advantage.
Wesleyan added two more runs in the third inning when Arnold recorded another sacrifice fly and Fix drove home Hague with an RBI double.
Walsh mounted a brief comeback attempt in the fifth when Ava Littin launched a two-run home run, but Bobcat pitcher
Morgan Greene worked through the remaining innings to secure the complete-game victory. Greene scattered six hits while striking out six in seven innings of work.
At the plate, Wesleyan collected 12 hits. Riley led the way with three hits and three runs scored, while Fix finished with three hits including a triple and double. Hague added two hits and two RBI, and Winn contributed two hits and a run batted in.
Tiffin 8, West Virginia Wesleyan 0
Monday afternoon, Wesleyan faced a strong pitching performance from Tiffin and dropped an 8–0 decision.
The Bobcats were held hitless over five innings by Tiffin pitcher Ella Esterby, who allowed just one walk while striking out two.
The game remained scoreless through two innings before Tiffin broke through in the third with a pair of runs. The Dragons then put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning that included several extra-base hits and RBI doubles from Jessica Miller and Reagan Mengerink.
Wesleyan's best opportunity came in the opening frame when Riley drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third following a sacrifice bunt and groundout, but the Bobcats were unable to bring her home.

Mackenzie O'Brien and
Avery Orille combined for the effort in the circle for Wesleyan as Tiffin finished with 12 hits.

The Bobcats jumped out quickly in the first inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues to grab a 2–0 lead. Jamestown responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the second to build a 5–2 advantage.
Wesleyan answered in the third with one of its biggest swings of the tournament. After singles from
Josi Fix and
Madison Austra,
Reagan Winn blasted a three-run home run to center field to tie the game at 5–5.
Jamestown responded immediately with a four-run third inning to regain control, but Wesleyan continued to battle. Fix later homered in the seventh inning and
