Frostburg State Topples Wesleyan in Road MEC Matchup

FROSTBURG, Md. — Frostburg State used a fast start and balanced offensive attack to defeat the Bobcats, 32-1, in Mountain East Conference women's lacrosse action, Sunday.

Frostburg set the tone early, scoring the game's first eight goals in the opening 6:07 until the Bobcats generated a chance when Nyah Elmer put a shot on cage. LaPlante was in position for the rebound and finished the play at 7:43 of the first quarter to put Wesleyan on the board and cut the deficit to 8-1.

That goal briefly stemmed the momentum. Frostburg responded with five more scores before the end of the opening quarter to take a 13-1 lead into the second where Frostburg added seven more goals to extend the margin to 20-1 by halftime. Tatiyana Blacknall came on in goal midway through the period and helped Wesleyan weather another surge, making several stops in the closing minutes of the half.

The rest of the game followed a similar pattern. Wesleyan kept battling in the final 15 minutes behind more work from its rotating goalkeepers. Gomez, Blacknall, and Boggs all saw time in cage, combining for 15 saves on the afternoon. Sloan nearly added a late goal for the Bobcats, but Frostburg goalkeeper Kiera Pieper made the stop with 1:19 to play. Frostburg closed out the contest with five fourth-quarter goals for the 32-1 final.

Wesleyan travels to Davis & Elkins College on Wednesday, April 1 for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Senators
