Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Lady Bobcats fell Wednesday night to the 16th ranked Fairmont State Falcons 2-1 in a rainy game on Cebe Ross Field. A second half shutout and late push was not enough as the Lady Bobcats fall to 2-3-1 in MEC play and 2-4-2 overall.
The Falcons put the pressure on early with their first goal in the 2nd minute by Sam Yuen and assisted by Dayra Dinarte. Fairmont State struck again in the 21st minute with a goal by Arrington Sparks that was set up by Regan Shockey. That was the end of the scoring by the Falcons for the remainder of the match as the Lady Bobcat's defense buckled down.
After a defensive stalemate for the majority of the second half, defender Carli Ice came off the bench and put one in the back of the net from deep in the 79th minute. Wesleyan was able to get 2 more shots off in the final 11 minutes, but neither could be the equalizer. Fairmont State ended the game with 15 total shots and 9 on goal, while WVWC totaled 7 shots and only 2 on goal. Goalie Reyna Dalton had 7 saves, while defenders Natalie Carlock, Leah-Rose Ireland, and Kaydence Bonneau played key parts in the second half shutout, both playing the entire 90 minutes.
The Lady Bobcats hit the road in their next match up, heading down Route 33 on Saturday, September 26th, to face off against rival Davis & Elkins at 12:30pm.
