Kernersville, N.C. – Both the men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday in the Rams Atlantic Region Preview, located in Kernersville, North Carolina and hosted by Winston-Salem State University. The athletes competed against runners from the conference and the region as a preparation race for the NCAA Atlantic Regional on November 21st.
On the women's side, senior Lindsey Dillon led the Bobcats with a 4th place finish out of 89 runners for a time of 23:03.4 over the 6k course. Fellow senior Mariam Al-Zoubi had an impressive top 15 finish with a time of 23:52.8. The Lady Bobcats would place 5th as a team. Rounding out the scoring for Wesleyan was Taylor Hess in 29th (24:52.0), Kaitlyn Key in 31st (25:03.8), and Sofia Pancoast placing 60th (26:51.5).
The men's team placed 5th as well and was led by a strong top 10 performance from senior Kent Niland, running a time of 26:34.1 for the 8k course. Freshman Gavin McDonald had an impressive showing in his second collegiate appearance placing 11th out of 91 runners and running a time of 26:43.9. Griffin Thomas (28th; 27:20.6), Logan Jones (56th; 29:44.3), and Zane Nelson (60th; 29:53.8) finished up the scoring for the Bobcats.
Both sides will continue competition on Saturday, October 10th, when they head north to run in Pittsburgh, PA, where they will race in the Carnegie Mellon Cross Country Invitational.
