Who We Are:
The WVWC Bobcat Dance Team is a performance and competitive based team generally composed of 14-22 members. We are looking for students with previous dance, cheer, and/or drill team experience who show drive, potential and commitment. All team members should be interested in increasing their dance techniques and style, while pursuing a passion for dance at the collegiate level. In addition to the required skills we also look for execution, showmanship, attitude, and learning ability.
Our Purpose:
● Promote good sportsmanship and teamwork by being leaders amongst the student body, ambassadors for alumni, and role models in the community.
● Promote school spirit and create crowd enthusiasm while supporting our athletic teams.
● Showcase the talent of the dancers as both artists and athletes through competing locally, regionally and nationally.
● Provide a motivating experience for all dancers involved by building leadership skills, mental and physical well-being, work ethic, positive social skills, and further dance training. Dancers will gain confidence and poise in performance and in life!
Performance Opportunities:
The Bobcat Dance Team performs/competes at the following events each year showcasing jazz, pom, hip hop, and contemporary dance styles:
● Sideline routines and half-time performances at all home football games
● Sideline routines and half-time performances at women’s and men’s home basketball games
● Homecoming events
● Community Parades
● High school dance team nights
● Danceworks- annual dance department concert
● Competes at local and regional competitions - TBA
● Competes at NDA Collegiate National Championships – Daytona Beach, Florida
The WVWC Dance Team strives to be on the cutting edge of choreography, costuming and music in order to provide a variety of entertainment to audience members and to be memorable in competition.
Other Opportunities:
Bobcat Dance Team members have the unique opportunity to take classes through our dance department and/or minor in dance. We also have opportunities to perform annually in the theatre departments musical and other fine arts events. The dance team also works closely and performs with the marching band on campus. There are multiple ways to showcase your dance talent here at Wesleyan!
