Hideomi Masuda, a native of Kumamoto, Japan, joined the Wesleyan’s Athletic Training staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and a Lecturer of Exercise Science and Athletic Training in August 2015.  Masuda is primarily responsible for the women’s soccer, men’s basketball, and baseball teams.
 
Masuda obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training with minors in Human Biology and Psychology from West Virginia Wesleyan College in May 2010.  A Magna Cum Laude graduate received the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Research and Education Foundation Entry Level Scholarship sponsored by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers’ Society (PBATS) in June 2009, the Athletic Training Student of the Year award from West Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association (WVATA) in February 2010, the Outstanding Senior Award from Wesleyan College in April 2010, and the post graduate scholarship from Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) in May 2010.  Masuda subsequently attained his Master of Science in Athletic Training degree from Wesleyan in June 2012 while providing athletic training services to various NCAA Division II collegiate athletic teams as a Graduate Intern Athletic Trainer.  He completed his graduate study with a thesis Perceptions of Sport-related Concussion among NCAA Division II Athletes.  He was awarded the master’s scholarship from MAATA in May 2011.  Furthermore, Masuda earned his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Health Care Administration from Wesleyan in May 2017.  He was awarded the MBA Outstanding Graduate from Wesleyan’s business faculty.
 
Through the athletic training curricula, Masuda completed his undergraduate clinical internship with West Virginia Power, a professional baseball team affiliated with Pittsburgh Pirates, (Charleston, WV) in the summer of 2009, followed by his graduate clinical internship under the direct supervision of Dr. Lucas Pavlovich and Dr. Richard Topping at Tygart Valley Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (Elkins, WV) in the summer of 2011.  Throughout the MBA curriculum, Masuda completed his internship with Mountain CAP of WV, Inc., a non-profit organization (Buckhannon, WV) in June 2014, and he gained pragmatic experiences through the summer graduate internship under the direct supervision of Dr. Kevin Crickard, the Administrator, at WV Veterans Nursing Facility (Clarksburg, WV) in 2015.
 
Masuda presented his undergraduate thesis Common Traits to Shoulder Stretching in Major League Baseball at WVATA annual sports medicine conference in February 2010 and at Mid-Atlantic Undergraduate Research Conference in March 2010.  He also presented a clinical case study on Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome in a Collegiate Football Player at WVATA annual sports medicine conference in February 2011.
 
After receiving a master’s degree in athletic training, Masuda served as an Intern Athletic Trainer at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where he was responsible for its NCAA Division I women’s soccer and cheerleading teams from August 2012 to May 2013.
Additionally, Masuda gained clinical experiences through various summer sports camps at the University of Virginia, Appalachian State University, and West Virginia Wesleyan College.  In January 2012, he was assigned to serve as Head Athletic Trainer at the Hansen Bowl: Small College Football All-Star Game (Virginia Beach, VA).
 
Masuda has been a Certified Athletic Trainer through Board of Certification since 2010.  He has also held certifications as a Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Performance Enhancement Specialist through National Academy of Sports Medicine since 2013, 2015, and 2019 respectively.  Masuda has served as an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor since 2016.  Additionally, Masuda completed a Myokinetic Restoration program through Postural Restoration Institute and an M-1 Basic Graston Technique certification through TherapyCare Resources Inc.  His primary interests in sports medicine include sport-related concussion, knee injury rehabilitation, and shoulder injury prevention and management. 
 
Masuda is a member of NATA, MAATA, WVATA, Omicron Delta Kappa —the national leadership honor society, Delta Mu Delta—the international honor society in business, and Theta Xi Fraternity Kappa Tau Chapter Alumni Association.  He has served as a mentor through WVATA Young Professionals’ Committee since April 2017. 
 
In his spare time, Masuda relishes bass fishing and outdoor activities in the state of Wild and Wonderful, West Virginia.
