Coach Hoffman has brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Wesleyan basketball program. He received his undergraduate degree at Fairmont State College (University) and his master’s degree from WVU. He retired from teaching and coaching at both East Fairmont High School (13 years) and Morgantown High School (21 years), and during his time with the Mohigans, helped lead the program to one of its finest decades in the history of the school, culminating with a state championship. During his time as a JV coach, his teams had a record of 428-70. While at Garrett College he helped lead the Varsity Men's program to a 76-35 record. In 2020 he helped lead the Laker Basketball program to its best finish ever with a trip to the national final four before losing in the final seconds in the semifinal game, culminating in a fourth-place national ranking. He helped develop all region players Zakeem Davis (2018), D'Monte Brown (2020) and All-American 2nd team, Cameron Selders (2020) and All-American first team, Malik Whitaker (2020). Brown and Whitaker are both playing in Germany and  Davis is playing in Canada as professionals
As a Bobcat assistant, Coach Hoffman has helped lead a resurgence of the WVWC men's basketball program to competitive basketball. In doing so, he helped guide All-conference selection Deiker Padrino (23-24) to one of the best years in the history of the program. Deiker finished in the top ten nationally as a three point shooter and led the conference. He is currently playing in South America as a pro hooper.
Coach Hoffman has also played a part in the development of Alex Mirhosseini, a senior on the 24–25 team. Alex made all-conference Mountain East this past season and is currently weighing offers from Division One programs to play one more year since he graduated this year.
