West Chester, PA- West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Soccer took on West Chester University on Sunday afternoon in the Atlantic Regional Semi-Final. Wesleyan was able to end West Chester's season by capturing a victory in penalty kicks 4-3. This would be the third straight game that Wesleyan would defeat their opponent in penalty kicks.
The first half did not provide much action, but West Chester did hold a slight advantage in shots 7-5.Â
At just under the 60th minute mark, the Lady Cats had their first opportunity at goal when
Natalie Prater played a pass on the ground to
Shannon Shawgo who blasted a shot from 10-yards out that just went wide.Â
Wesleyan would be guilty of two yellow cards in the half, one going to
Kayla Fay and one going to Jennafer Algone.Â
West Chester applied a lot of pressure in the second half, but the Lady Cats held strong and forced the game into overtime.
Chelsea Hubner and
Ashlee Schumacher would each play a half in goal for Wesleyan. West Chester had an advantage in shots 19-9 and a huge advantage in corner kicks with 13 to Wesleyan's 0 heading into the overtime.Â
MaKatlyn Tucker almost sealed the game for the Lady Cats in the 96th minute when she gathered up a deflection in the box and fired a shot just over the crossbar.Â
The first and second overtimes would pass and Wesleyan would be in familiar territory. This was the Lady Cats third consecutive post-season game with penalty kicks.
Chelsea Hubner and company would help propel Wesleyan to the 4-3 win in penalty kicks and advance to the Atlantic Regional Final.Â
Hubner would stop the third and fifth attempts for West Chester.

Natalie Prater,
Carolyn Saulle, and Natlie Pireu would all make their attempts for Wesleyan to move them past second seeded West Chester.Â
Wesleyan has moved past two regional opponents that have been ranked higher then them. Kutztown was the third ranked team in the region, while West Chester was the second ranked team. The Lady Cats will play the Atlantic Regional final next week against the winner of East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg.Â
