Softball Splits at Fairmont

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team split in their games against Fairmont on Monday. In their first competition, Wesleyan won 5-1 which was followed by a loss in the second competition, 4-3.

In their win over Fairmont, to start off in the top of the 3rd inning, Morgan Bruce singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw, Krista Waggoner advanced to third bringing in Sara Scoone for the first run. Brittani Bible flied out to right field advancing Bruce to third and Waggoner crossed home plate. Megan Magsamen then advanced to second on a passed ball, Kasey Robinson advanced to third and Bruce scored advancing the score to 3-0. Magsamen advanced to third on a wild pitch advancing Robinson home, 4-0. Continuing into the top of the 7th inning, Bible hit a home run to center field, finalizing the score 5-1.

In the close loss to Fairmont during the second game, the Bobcats has a strong start in the top of the 1st inning, Bruce singled up the middle, Waggoner advanced to second, and Scoone scored. Robinson singled up the middle advancing Bible to second; Bruce advanced to third and Waggoner scored. Ending the 1st inning, Magsamen singled to left field, Robinson advanced to second; Arianna Smoot advanced to third and Bruce brought in the final run.

The team advances their overall record to 9-8 and 2-2 in the MEC. The Bobcats will return to their home field on Saturday against Virginia-Wise with start times at 2pm and 4pm.
