BUCKAHNNON – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team swept Concord in their games on Sunday afternoon winning 8-0 and 9-4.
In the first game of the day, starting off the 1
st inning strong,
Lauryn King hit a home run and brough in
Sara Scoone. In the 3
rd inning,
Morgan Bruce tripled to right field while King scored then
Brittani Bible doubled to left field and Bruce scored; followed by
Aylin Gutierrez who singled to center field bringing home Bible increasing the lead 5-0. The strong play continued into the 4
th inning with King who singled to the pitcher, while Scoone advanced to third and
Madison Casto scored.
Krista Waggoner also singled to the pitcher advancing King to second and Scoone crossed home plate. Finishing the game in the 5
th inning, Scoone singled to center field, Casto advanced to second and
Brianna Ross scored ending the game 8-0.
In the second game, in the 1
st inning, Scoone doubled to left field and Casto scored followed by Waggoner who doubled to left field and Scoone scored. Gutierrez then singled to left field, Bible advanced to second, and Waggoner scored. In the 2
nd inning, King advanced to second on a passed ball and Casto crossed home plate. Bruce tripled to left field bringing home Waggoner and King. Bible singled to right field and Bruce scored increasing the lead 7-3. In the 5
th inning, Waggoner doubled to right field advancing King to third and Scoone scored. Then, Bruce flied out to center field, Waggoner advanced to third and King scored the final run.
The Bobcats increase their overall record to 11-8 and 4-2 in the MEC. They will return to their home field on Monday to face off against Virginia-Wise at 1pm and 3pm.
