Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team went 1-1 during their two games on Tuesday against Wilmington and Georgian Court. The team was shut out by Wilmington with a score of 8-0 but were determined to come back in the second game and shut out Georgian Court, 5-0.
During their shut out against Georgian Court, in the bottom of the 1
st inning,
Krista Waggoner homered to right field bringing in three runs;
Lauryn King and
Sara Scoone both scored increasing the lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the 2
nd inning,
Sara Scoone singled through the left side, advanced to second on the throw while Makayka McElwayne advanced to third bringing in
Arianna Smoot to score increasing the lead to now 4-0. For the final run of the game in the bottom of the 5
th inning,
Krista Waggoner grounded out to the pitcher with a sacrifice bunt to advance
Lauryn King to third who then brought it home on a throwing error to 1
st base; ending the game with a shut out, 5-0. Pitcher,
Hannah Vet threw 94 pitches with 67 of them being strikes.
The Bobcats increase their record to 4-4 after Tuesday's competitions. The team will return to the field on Wednesday for their final match-ups in Clermont, Florida against Upper Iowa and Findlay with start times at 11am and 2pm.
