Shepherdstown, WV -- Maycon Santos Dias captured a big win at #1 singles to lead #38 West Virginia Wesleyan to a 9-0 blanking of Shepherd University in men's Mountain East conference tennis action here Wednesday.
Santos Dias edged SU's Carter Davis 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in their marquee matchup. Davis came into the match unbeaten in singles play this spring in dual matches, and was a front runner for the MEC player of the year.
Santos Dias also garnered a doubles win, pairing with
Yonas Gebre to defeat Davis and Evan Dokken by an 8-4 margin.
The rest of the 'Cats rolled to straight set victories on the day, as Wesleyan raised their season mark to 12-3, and 5-0 in MEC play.
The Bobcats return home Thursday for a pivotal match against Fairmont State at 330pm at their new tennis complex. FSU is also unbeaten in MEC play at 5-0, and this match will determine the regular season conference championship as the winner will clinch no worse than a tie for the title, and the top seed for the MEC tournament.
