West Liberty, WV -- West Virginia Wesleyan swept the singles en route to an 8-1 win at West Liberty University in men's tennis here Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats (13-3, 7-0 MEC) captured the Mountain East conference regular season title, and will be the top seed for next week's league tournament in Huntington.
Lukas Laipold, Maycon Santos Dias, Thomas McIntosh, and Yonas Gebre each contributed two points for the Bobcats with singles and doubles wins, while Ramon Rodriguez and Harry Simaioforidis also won singles matches. Wesleyan is currently ranked #2 in the NCAA Atlantic regional poll, and #38 nationally in the ITA rankings.
"The guys have been grinding away at the goal of winning the MEC title outright for the whole year, and this was a nice way to finish it off," said head coach Marc Walters. "And for the seniors, Ramon and Ferran, this was their win at West Liberty during their four years so it was special for them."
Wesleyan returns to action in their season finale at home Saturday with a 10 AM contest against West Chester University. Both the men's and women's team will be in action against the Rams of the Pennsylvania State Athletic conference.
