Softball Defeats Wheeling Jesuit

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team defeated Wheeling Jesuit in both games on Saturday afternoon with scores of 5-1 and 8-7.

In the first competition, Lauryn King started things off in the 1st inning during a reach on a fielding error by the short stop, she advanced to second on the throw while Madison Casto advanced to third, then scored on a fielding error by the infielder. Things heated up in the 7th inning when Kasey Robinson tripled to center field and Brittani Bible scored. Megan Magsamen singled to shortstop and Robinson scored.     Sara Scoone singled through the left side and advanced to second on the throw, Casto advanced to third while Magsamen crossed home plate. King flied out to infield and Casto scored the final run.

In the second competition, starting in the 3rd inning, Krista Waggoner doubled to right field bringing home Scoone and Casto. In the 5th inning, Scoone doubled to center field and Magsamen scored. King doubled to left center while Scoone scored. Waggoner singled down the 1st base line, and King scored. In the 6th inning, Casto singled to third base and advanced to second on the throw, Robinson scored and Ariana Smoot scored. Aylin Gutierrez got hit by pitch, Waggoner advanced to second, Scoone advanced to third, and Casto crossed home plate for the final run.

The Bobcats increase their overall record to 27-10 and 18-4 in the MEC. The team will return to their home field against Glenville State on Wednesday for start times at 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
