Box Score 4 Buckhannon -- West Virginia Wesleyan hosted Concord for a four game series over Friday and Saturday. WVWC would split the series 2-2 picking up a win in the later game on each day.
Game 1
Eric Forbrick provided some early offense for the bobcats, bringing home
Wyatt Adkins on a single to third. Concord would respond in the second when an Oscar Garcia double scored teammate Paul Williams. Concord would take control of the game from there on as the Mountain Lions would gon on to hit 2 home runs and connect on 13 hits for the game. Wesleyan would total six hits for the game, three of them coming from Forbrick. Troy Beckner (W,5-3) allowed six hits over six innings pitched.
Jake Bishop (L,1-5) allowed eight runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. Wesleyan would fall in game one, 13-1.
Game 2
Wesleyan's offense would erupt for the bobcats in the bottom of the fourth. With the bobcats down 2-0,
Eric Forbrick would hit a solo shot over the left field fence. Concord would go on to walk the next five Wesleyan batters, scoring two runs and giving the bobcats a 3-2 lead. CU couldn't get out of the inning, as a passed ball would bring home
Josh Petit.
Wyatt Adkins would drive in two more runs with a single. Wesleyan would head into the fifth inning with a 6-2 lead. Wesleyan would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, putting the game out of reach at 8-2.
Griffin Roe (W, 1-1) would allow two runs on six hits over four innings.
Logan Brouwer pitched the final three innings for the bobcats, allowing only on hit and striking out five of nine batters.
Game 3
Trent Abernathy (W, 4-0) pitched 5.2 innings for Concord, allowing nine hits but only two runs. Concord got offense early, scoring six run in the first, adding two more in both the second and fifth. Wesleyan got some offense going late as
Kolby Wolf and
Dominic Castello both drove in runs on singles in the bottom of the sixth. Wesleyan would connect on 11 hits in the game.
Julio Medina (L,1-5) would pitch 5.0 innings allowing six hits, eight runs, and striking out two. CU would take the game, 11-3.
Game 4
Chris Metrick was outstanding for the Bobcats in the final game of the series, allowing only one run on six hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 11. In the top of the second,
Tanner McCallister picked up two RBI's on a single to center field. As Metrick stayed automatic on the mound, Wesleyan continued to put up runs.
Bryson Fluke singled to drive home another run, while
Greg Smith and
Eric Forbrick would drive home runs in the top of the fifth. Concord would avoid the shutout in the seventh when a Jordan Clark double brought home Trevor Wiersma. WVWC would take the final game 5-1 to secure the series split.
Wesleyan sits at 8-26 overall and 7-13 in MEC play.
The Bobcats will host Davis & Elkins College Wednesday. The game is slated for 6 PM.
