Box Score 4 Institute, WV -- WVWC took the road for a four game series with MEC opponent West Virginia State University over the weekend. Wesleyan dropped the first two games by scores of 1-6 in game one, and 1-12 in game 2. In game one,
Riley Metz sent a shot over the center field fence to get the bobcats on the board. In game two,
Wyatt Adkins scored the lone run with a homerun to center as well.
Saturday was all Wesleyan, as the bobcats got on the board early in game three when
Greg Smith scored in the first inning.
Eric Forbrick picked up the RBI.
Julio Medina threw an excellent game, pitching six innings, striking out seven batters, and allowing zero runs on only four hits. WVWC picked up some insurance in the fourth inning when
Sam Ross singled to center field, scoring Domonic Castello.
Chris Metrick picked up the save, allowing only one hit and striking out two in the final inning.
Metrick would take the mound for the final game of the series, throwing a gem and earning him MEC Pitcher of the Week honors. To add to his complete game shutout, he struck out nine batters and allowed only three hits. Wesleyan scored four runs in the second inning, taking control of the game. They added to that lead in the sixth when
Tanner McCallister and
Kyle Kania scored on a
Eric Forbrick single.
Wesleyan moves to 10-29 overall, and 9-15 in the MEC.
