Buckhannon- Wesleyan Volleyball played at home on Friday evening in a key MEC matchup. The Rock was packed with a great atmosphere that helped propel the Bobcats to a 3-0 win over Concord.
"Tonight was certainly a team win and team effort. I am very proud of the fight and effort of all members to share in this conference win" stated Coach Wheeler. She added " The atmosphere was electric, very easy to feed from it. I really want to thank everyone who attended tonight!"
Concord jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in the first set. The Bobcats roared back and shared points with Concord in the middle of the match. Wesleyan took over with five straight points to make it 17-12. That stretch included some key points and blocks most notably my
Ebonie Hicks. The Cats would hold on to win the set 25-19.
Concord again would jump out to an early lead 6-4. Wesleyan would own the middle of the set again taking 10 out of the next 14 points. This included kills from
Olivia Lundy,
Ebonie Hicks,
Emily Doyle, and blocks from
Ebonie Hicks,
Lauryn Antolock, and
Emily Doyle. The Bobcats would go on to win the set 25-18.
After an early 10-8 start, Wesleyan took over closing the set on a 15-4 run. The impressive run included 12 kills, with four of them coming from
Anaya Hyman. Wesleyan won the third and final set 25-12.Â
Coach Wheeler on the keys to the win: "We played well at the net, our blockers were aggressive. Coach Hefner worked with the team this week on getting into an early rhythm and it definitely paid off tonight. Our setters did a nice job mixing things up, and serving tough. Our seniors played great, with passion and determination. We certainly needed this WIN!"
Emily Doyle and
Anaya Hyman shared the game lead with 8 kills a piece.
Lauryn Antolock had 5 of of the Bobcats 9 blocks.
Hannah Bradford had the game lead with 31 digs, and
Mackenzie Wheeler had a game high 22 assists.Â
Wesleyan Volleyball improves to 1-9 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow morning as they take on UVA Wise at home. The game is set to start at 10 AM.Â
