Buckhannon- West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Soccer squared off against Concord University in MEC play on Thursday night. The Bobcats were looking for their first win of the season against the visiting Mountain Lions.
Just under fifteen minutes into the game,
Kazuma Takagi would have a one on one with the keeper after a bad defensive play for Concord. The Mountain Lion keeper would deflect it out for a corner kick.
Andrew Polychroniadis would strike the corner with pace and it would curve around the keeper to put the Bobcats up 1-0.Â
Hazuki Hashizume would connect for Wesleyan's second goal of the match. Hahizume would place a shot by the CU Keeper off a beautiful pass in the box from
Matthew Bentley. Wesleyan up 2-0 with 21 minutes to go in the half.Â
The Bobcats could not keep CU off the scoreboard when Courtney Skerritt won a ball and put the shot past the Wesleyan keeper to make it 2-1. The goal for Concord came with five minutes left in the half.Â
Wesleyan took the lead into the half with an advantage in shots of 10-4.
Wesleyan would get off seven shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The closest opportunities coming off a header from
Zach Whiting off a corner kick that was deflected out by the CU keeper. Minutes late
Matthew Bentley would make a move around the final the defender and have a good shot at goal by the CU keeper again made a great save. Wesleyan would have the advantage in shots at this point in the match 18-4.
The games first yellow cards would be shown to both teams just minutes apart. The first one was given to Bruno Baptista of Concord, and moments later Nika Monaselidize of Wesleyan would receive one as well.Â
Concord would commit a foul in the box that would lead to a penalty kick goal for
Liam Igoe. Wesleyan would have the 3-1 lead with 21 minutes left in the contest.Â
In the 69th minute, CU would cut the lead as Maxime Ramioulle would fire a shot from 20-yards out that would curl around the Wesleyan keeper. Bobcats still lead 3-2.Â
Wesleyan would keep CU off the scoreboard the rest of the match and come away with their first win of the season and a big victory in MEC play. Wesleyan would hold a major advantage in shots 22-7. Men's Soccer will be back in action Sunday when they travel to Urbana for another crucial conference game.Â
