Men's Soccer History
The West Virginia Wesleyan College Men's Soccer program began as a club in 1959 through the hard work of Dr. Maurice Soremekun '63 and many other dedicated soccer players in the student body. It gained official status as a varsity sport in 1962 under the leadership of it's first official coach John Myers. Coach Myers would lead the Bobcats to their first 2 WVIAC tournament championships in 1965 and 1966. In the years to follow, Dr. George Klebez '65, Dr. Tom Martin, Derrick Leeson '87 and Gavin Donaldson would oversee a program that would come to be recognized not only as a state and regional power, but a National force at the NAIA and NCAA DII level.  West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Soccer won 18 more WVIAC Championships and 5 NAIA National Championships through 1994, their last season with the NAIA.
In 1995 the Bobcats began their life at the NCAA DII level and immediately qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1996,1997 and 1999. The team has continued it's success, making it to the Elite Eight in 2010 and winning the MEC Championship and making the NCAA's in 2017.  The program has produced over 25 All-Americans and numerous Academic All-Americans, All-Region and WVIAC/MEC All-Conference players and Players of the Year, as well as 7 consecutive Team Awards for Academic Excellence. Â
