Buckhannon- West Virginia Wesleyan Women's soccer was in action on Thursday evening in MEC play against Concord University. The Lady Cats had won four straight coming into the contest, and made it five straight with a 3-1 win over the visiting Mountain Lions.
Within the seventh minute of the game, WVWC got on the board off a beautiful corner kick.
Natalie Prater played the corner kick into the box that was headed in by
MaKatlyn Tucker. Wesleyan up 1-0.
Wesleyan would strike again off another corner kick.
Natalie Prater played another corner into the box, this time headed in by
Shannon Shawgo. Wesleyan up 2-0 with less than 10 minutes left in the half.
Headers was the theme for the first half. Concord connected on their first goal of the half when a free kicked played in from the left sideline was headed in by Maggie May. Wesleyan up 2-1 with under ten minutes left in the half. The scored would hold going into the half with the home team with the slight lead in shots with 6 to Concord's 4.
MaKatlyn Tucker facilitated the first goal of the second half in the 58th minute, when she would play a cross into
Shannon Shawgo for her second goal of the game. Wesleyan up 3-1.
Concord would string together some opportunities with less than ten minutes left in the half. Goalkeeper
Ashlee Schumacher stepped up to make some key saves to keep the score 3-1.
Wesleyan would make it five straight wins and make it and a perfect 3-0 in MEC play. The Lady Cats would be led by
Natalie Prater with 2 assists, and
Shannon Shawgo with 2 goals. Wesleyan will be back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Shepherd University for another MEC contest.
