Buckhannon, WV -- Three different West Virginia Wesleyan players swept their singles matches during the I-79 Challenge this past weekend. Fairmont State, Davis and Elkins, and the Bobcats split time between the FSU and Wesleyan campuses in the event, as the teams competed in singles and doubles flights.
Alexander Lyudinovskiy, Taylor Papworth, and Anthony McIntosh each won both of their singles matches, as the Bobcats completed the weekend with a 13-3 mark overall.
"It was another nice weekend for Alex and Taylor, who have kept their momentum up after grinding through the ITA last weekend," said head coach
Marc Walters. "I have been really happy with the progress of this freshman class, and they have had some solid results so far in their early play. It bodes well for the future."
The tourney was the final fall event for the 'Cats, after learning that the Best Western Duals in Hickory, NC would not be held due to a coaching change and some other scheduling issues. The squad will now concentrate their efforts on strength and conditioning as they head into the spring attempting to defend their Mountain East titles.
"We got a good look at Charleston and West LIberty, as well as Fairmont State this fall and it looks like the team will have it work cut out for them to defend," said Walters.
