Lady Bobcats Fall to Conference Foe Notre Dame College

Buckhannon, WV -- West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Soccer fell at home on Sunday to Notre Dame College 2-0. Both teams came into today's match looking to begin a climb up their respective Mountain East Conference division standings. Notre Dame came to Buckhannon inspired, and shut out a Lady Bobcats team coming off a 4 goal performance against Fairmont State.

The loss is a tough one for Wesleyan, moving them below rival Davis & Elkins in the South Division standings with an MEC record of 4-3. Their overall record moves to 5-5 as the season has reached its midway point.

Notre Dame leaves Buckhannon with a big victory, improving their MEC record to 3-2-3, which is good for 3rd place in the North Division. The Falcons bounce up to 4-3-4 on the season and have created their first winning streak of the year.

The Lady Bobcats Senior Goalkeeper Chelsea Hubner was busy on Sunday, making 7 saves over the course of the 90 min contest. This marks her 2nd highest saves total of the season, she collected 10 in a September match against Concord. Senior Madison LaPole put 2 shots on goal today, while Senior Shannon Shawgo and Junior Kayla Fay both contributed a shot on goal as well.

Notre Dame led throughout this one, as the Falcons were able to put in a goal in both periods. Right before the horn, Freshman Defender April Gaukin scored the first goal of her college career at the end of the first period, putting the Falcons up 1-0. In the second period, it was Junior Midfielder Isabel Sentle who buried the dagger goal in the 70th minute to put the Falcons up 2-0, which would end up as the final score. Sentle came on as a substitute in the first period, and she notched both her first goal and assist of the season in this one.

Next up, the Lady Bobcats look to upend a North Division-leading Urbana Blue Knights squad this Thursday on the road. They will look to get the offense back on track and get leading goal scorer Haelly Ramirez back into the scoring sheet.

Notre Dame will look to make it 3 wins in a row as they host a Davis & Elkins squad that currently sits in 2nd place in the South Division. Wesleyan will be rooting for Notre Dame in this one, as Davis & Elkins jumped the Lady Bobcats in the standings this week.
