Buckhannon, WV -- West Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball did not look their best this weekend, and West Liberty took advantage on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Hilltoppers grabbed all three of the first sets of the match, by scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-14. Wesleyan was leading for moments in the second and third sets, but could not take them to the end.
The Lady Bobcats lost both home matches this weekend, and drop to 2-5 in the Mountain East Conference and 5-13 overall. West Liberty will be excited to leave Buckhannon with this win, as it bumps them past Wesleyan in the MEC standings, and they pull back to .500 on the season at 11-11.
The trend of the weekend, attack errors were again the problem for Wesleyan. Similar to Friday night against Wheeling, the Lady Bobcats had a hitting percentage below .100. However, Juniors
Emily Doyle and
Lauryn Antolock were both effective, notching 6 kills with hitting percentages in the .200's. Freshman
Abigail Anderson was consistently good on defense this week, recording 14 digs twice in three games (Tuesday at Salem).
While not producing outstanding counting statistics on Saturday, West Liberty was adept at taking advantage of Wesleyan mistakes. The leaders for the Lady Hilltoppers were Madison Clayton and Mackenzie Sims each with 7 kills, Renee Lemke with 14 assists, Madison Clayton with 3 assisted blocks, and Kailee Cunningham with 10 digs.
The Lady Bobcats will have 5 full days to recover from this weekend, and get things right in practice, before they head to South Euclid, OH on Wednesday for an MEC matchup with Notre Dame College. The Lady Falcons are having a strong season at 17-7 overall, and 4-3 in the MEC.
West Liberty will not have to travel this upcoming week, playing host to Charleston on Tuesday, and West Virginia State on Wednesday.
