South Euclid, OH --Â West Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball began a two-day, two-match trip to Ohio on Friday night. Up against a strong Notre Dame College team, the Lady Bobcats came out swinging in the first set, taking it 25-22. However, the Falcons regained the momentum in the second set and won the next three, winning the match 3-1.Â
This result continues a tough stretch for Wesleyan Volleyball. It looked like they had regained good form in the first two sets, putting up 47 points. However with just 27 points over the next two sets, the Lady Bobcats will still be looking to make improvements. They drop to 5-14 on the season, and 2-6 in the Mountain East Conference.Â
Notre Dame keeps flying high, as the Falcons win their fourth straight match to bring them to 18-7 overall, and 5-3 in the MEC. Over those four matches, Notre Dame has only dropped three sets.Â
Wesleyan's top performer on Friday was Junior
Lauryn Antolock. She led the Lady Bobcats with a season high ten kills, and four blocks. Freshman
Payton Hefner continued her strong debut season, tallying double digit assists and digs, with seventeen and twelve respectively. Hefner and Freshman Libero
Abigail Anderson, who had 13 digs on Friday, are both showing that they are promising players to build around for the future.Â
The star of the show for Notre Dame was Senior Mary Kate McHugh. The outside hitter finished tenth in the country last year in total kills, and she showed why on Friday, putting up nineteen on a .395 hitting percentage. Fellow Senior Paige Staudacher had no trouble setting up McHugh, dishing out 38 assists over the course of the match.Â
The Lady Bobcats will wrap up their Ohio trip with a match at Urbana on Saturday at 5:00 PM. Urbana will be a tough opponent, they currently hold third place in the MEC at 7-1.
Notre Dame hosts Davis & Elkins Saturday night at 6:00 PM. That match will be interesting as both teams are tied in the standings at 5-3.Â
