Ramirez Caps Off Regular Season

Lady Bobcats Look Ahead to the Postseason

Elkins, WV -- Sunday marked the regular-season finale for West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Soccer. They made the short trip down to Davis & Elkins, and played a clean game to come out with a 1-0 victory. Senior Forward Haelly Ramirez put the only goal on the board for either side in the 64th minute off an assist from Taylor Maucere. The game-winner was Ramirez' tenth goal of the season.

With the regular-season now complete, the Lady Bobcats will look ahead to the beginning of postseason play. They will host the opening round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Buckhannon. The opponent is likely going to be Charleston if the standings finish on Sunday as expected. The Golden Eagles managed to stay above .500 on the season and in the MEC, finishing the regular-season at 9-8-1, and 7-6-1, respectively. Wesleyan grabs the two seed in the South Division with a final record of 12-6 overall, and 10-4 in the MEC.

The Lady Bobcats will enter the MEC Tournament with one of the top offensive players in the league in Haelly Ramirez, sixth in goals, and a cohesive group of talented midfielders. Chrystal Posada, Kayla Fay, and Madison LaPole have shown the ability all year to control play on both sides of midfield. Additionally, their facilitating play has helped Shannon Shawgo and Taylor Maucere find many scoring opportunities in front of goal. The Lady Bobcats will also have the advantage in goal for every game they play in the postseason, as Senior Chelsea Hubner has proven herself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the country, let alone in the MEC and the Atlantic Region. She followed up her 2018 season, where she led the NCAA in save percentage and shutouts, with an eight shutout campaign on an 87.7% save percentage.

More pre-match coverage will be provided before Tuesday's match, which will be played on the turf at Cebe Ross Field due to inclement weather. First kick is set for 1:00 PM.
